THE NOSHAME MOVEMENT CAUSE
About NOSHAME Movement Mission
NOSHAME Movement envisions a world where the stigma surrounding mental health, especially around men, is dismantled allowing individuals to openly seek support and share their struggles without fear of judgment. We dream of a society where mental resilience is celebrated, and every person feels empowered to overcome their challenges, fostering an environment of empathy, strength, and community support. We aim to create a support network and tools to battle stigma and help future generations stop suffering in silence.
Our mission is to raise awareness by organizing social fundraising for mental health initiatives, particularly focusing on depression, through the powerful metaphor of endurance sports. To kick off, Tiago is participating in one of the world's most challenging extreme triathlons, the PATAGONMAN, aiming to embody and promote the principles of mental resilience, strength, and the importance of community support. NOSHAME is not just about finishing a race; it's about starting conversations, breaking down barriers, and creating a (global) movement that champions mental well-being alongside physical endurance to fight depression and stop this silent battle among men.

Why Endurance Sports
Endurance training is the act of exercising to increase endurance. The term endurance training generally refers to training the aerobic system as opposed to the anaerobic system. Endurance training is essential for a variety of endurance sports (mainly exercises your heart rate to sustain (low) for long periods of time). A notable example is distance running events like marathons and ultra-marathons. Two other popular examples are cycling (particularly road cycling) and competitive swimming. These three endurance sports are combined in the triathlon.
Any sports are beneficial for mental health. However, training endurance sports, such as triathlon, you're forced to train for long hours, in which you are also training your nervous system and mental resilience. This is crucial for your mental well-being. Scientific researches has shown the benefits of endurance in the treatment of depression and anxiety (read the article).
